Eileen M. Sethna

Eileen M. Sethna is a partner and the leader of LP’s Financial Services & Restructuring Group, where she brings more than two decades of experience representing lenders, borrowers, financial institutions, private equity firms, hedge funds, real estate investors, and business owners. With a background spanning finance, hospitality, and complex commercial litigation, Eileen is a trusted advisor known for her strategic insight, industry fluency, and steadfast commitment to client service.

Her practice focuses on guiding clients through all facets of financial transactions and distress scenarios, including underwriting, due diligence, structuring, reorganizations, workouts, and other insolvency-related matters. Recognized for her ability to simplify complexity, Eileen takes a highly collaborative and solution‑oriented approach, shaping strategies that reflect each client’s goals and business realities.

An accomplished trial lawyer, Eileen has extensive experience advocating before judges and juries in sophisticated commercial disputes. She previously represented the Office of the Illinois State Treasurer and served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois—appointments that reflect both her litigation skill and her professional integrity. Earlier in her career, she clerked for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in child support enforcement and for the Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission of the Illinois Supreme Court.

Eileen’s leadership and impact have been widely recognized. She has been named one of Crain’s Chicago Business “Notable Women Lawyers” multiple times, and she has been honored as a Notable Woman in the Law, Gen X Leader in Law, and an influential nonprofit board leader for her service, mentorship, and advocacy work.

Deeply committed to her community, Eileen serves on both the Advisory and Women’s Boards of Misericordia and is a director for Special Olympics Illinois. Her dedication to advancing opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is matched by her commitment to mentoring aspiring lawyers, including through her work coaching trial teams for the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana. She also contributes her leadership to local education and parish communities, serving on the Executive Board of The Joseph Sears School Parent Volunteer Association and the Finance Council for Saints Joseph and Francis Xavier Parish.

  • If I weren’t an attorney, what would you be?
    I am an avid sports fan and spent a significant part of my childhood at the Boston Garden and Fenway Park cheering on my beloved Celtics and Red Sox. So, if I weren’t an attorney, I would love to be a sports broadcaster.

  • What’s one thing someone would be surprised to know about you?
    I was the captain of the Men’s Golf Team in high school.

  • What’s the best compliment you ever received in the context of being a lawyer?
    A furiously obstructionist witness slammed his hands on the table in the fifth hour of a deposition and screamed, “does your mother know what you do?”

  • What was the first concert you went to?
    Grateful Dead, Boston Garden.
