  1. Chicago Employers – Know Your Responsibilities under Chicago’s Travel Advisory. On the eve of the July 4 holiday, the Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner issued an emergency travel order directing travelers returning from states experiencing a surge in new COVID-19 cases to quarantine for 14 days upon return to the city – even if they have a negative COVID-19 test. For Chicago employers, this means that employees returning from vacation may be required to self-quarantine for 14 days after return. Employees who are unable to telework during this period may be eligible for Emergency Paid Sick Leave under the FFCRA, if other requirements are met. 1. The deadline to apply for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) has officially been extended to August 8 under new legislation signed into law by the President on Saturday. The previous deadline to apply was June 30, however, there were still about $130 billion of untapped funds in the program at that time. If you haven’t applied for the program yet, check out our roundup of helpful resources to get started. Authored by Aria Eckersley
  1. Client Question: “We applied for and received a PPP loan only to learn later that the amounts we sought were exclusive of permissible owner’s compensation. We have learned that there is $130 billion left in the PPP fund. Can we reapply? If we do, must we go back to the same bank that issued us the first PPP loan?” Return to your original PPP lender and ask to amend your prior application. Answered by Eileen Sethna
