Peter also advises businesses and executives on employment-related matters, including restrictive covenants, employment agreements, and trade secret protection.
Clients value Peter’s business-focused approach to disputes, practical judgment, and focus on defining and achieving business objectives—whether through litigation or the strategic avoidance of it. When litigation is the right tool, Peter prioritizes strategies designed to efficiently prepare for trial while advancing the client’s objectives. Drawing on his extensive litigation experience, he evaluates matters early to identify risks, leverage, and viable paths to resolution, enabling clients to manage expectations and make well-informed decisions. Strategies may include seeking temporary emergency relief, filing early dispositive motions, or strategically using the litigation process in other non-traditional ways to create leverage and drive resolution.
Highly regarded for his formidable advocacy skills in the courtroom, Peter has been recognized by clients and peers for his exceptional litigation skills and dedicated client service. He earned a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent® rating, is named among Leading Lawyers® in commercial litigation, has been recognized as an Illinois Super Lawyer® since 2015, and was named a Crain’s Chicago GenX Notable Leader in Law in 2019.
Peter earned his J.D., cum laude, from Loyola University of Chicago and his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin. Before joining LP, Peter was a partner at and founder of Roeser Tanner & Graham LLC. Q&A
What is the most interesting part of your job?
There is no standard playbook for litigation. Each matter requires learning something new—an industry, an area of law, or a unique set of facts—and using it to shape a strategy focused on the client’s objective. I enjoy working with clients to define that objective and leverage the right strategies to achieve a successful outcome. What’s the best compliment you ever received from a client?
A client once told me it’s rare to find an attorney who is sharp, pragmatic, and tactical, while also being someone he enjoyed on a personal level outside of the courtroom. That last part resonated with me because litigation often involves high-stress disputes, and the best outcomes come from working hand in hand with clients, earning their trust, and maintaining a strong working relationship under pressure. If you weren’t an attorney, what would you do?
I’d run for Congress and moonlight as a professional paddle tennis player.
