As a litigation partner in the Trusts & Estates Group, David represents clients in complex disputes over trusts, estates, and closely-held businesses. He frequently litigates breach of fiduciary duty claims, will and trust contests and other estate disputes, as well as corporate governance claims, often in family businesses. With deep knowledge and decades of experience, David strives to help clients achieve their objectives by implementing efficient and effective strategies.
David is also a certified mediator focused on mediating disputes over trusts and estates.
David is a Fellow with the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and serves on its Fiduciary Litigation, Professional Responsibility, and Amicus Brief Review Committees. Election to ACTEC is based on a having an outstanding reputation in trusts and estates law and having made substantial contributions to the field by lecturing, writing, teaching, and bar activities. David frequently writes and speaks on fiduciary litigation, legal ethics, and closely held business disputes.
David is also a leader in the American Bar Association’s Trust & Estate Section, serving on its council and its standing committee for the National Conference of Lawyers and Corporate Fiduciaries, and is ABA Advisor to the Uniform Law Commission’s Drafting Committee on Conflicts of Laws in Trusts and Estates. David is also past chair of the Section’s Litigation and Professional Responsibility Group.
In a review of lawyers considered for judicial appointments, the Chicago Council of Lawyers found David “Well Qualified” for appointment, with lawyers and judges commending him as an “excellent lawyer with an excellent temperament” and as having “outstanding legal ability” and trial skills.
David was formerly a partner in Levin, Schreder & Carey. He earned his J.D. from the University of Chicago and his B.S., magna cum laude, from Brown University. In his free time, he enjoys his family, reading, swimming, cycling and hiking.

June. School’s out (I still remember the thrill), trees and flowers in bloom, I can swim outside, and Father’s Day, my birthday and our wedding anniversary all fall in the third week.
