Joseph Perera is an associate in the firm’s Corporate Group. Joseph concentrates his practice in tax. He advises clients on the tax consequences of various corporate and business transactions including corporate and partnership formations, mergers, acquisitions and dispositions. He assists clients in drafting and reviewing partnership agreements, limited liability company operating agreements, merger agreements, asset purchase agreements and financing documents to ensure the client’s tax objectives are met. He has also represented businesses and individuals during all stages of federal tax controversies including audits, IRS appeals and Tax Court litigation.
Before joining LP, Joseph worked in the tax department of a Fortune 100 company and has worked in law firms in Michigan and Texas. He began his career as an attorney in the national office of the IRS Office of Chief Counsel. Joseph is a cum laude graduate of Southern Methodist University School of Law and earned an LL.M. in Taxation and an Employee Benefits Certificate from Georgetown University Law Center.
