“Lateral hiring decisions are among the most important that we as a firm make. So while we may ask a seemingly never-ending stream of questions of any lateral candidate, the most important one is probably the simplest: 'Why are you looking to make a move?' The answer to this question is very telling. If it sounds to us like the candidate is running away from his or her current situation, rather than seeking out a firm with our qualities, that raises a red flag, and it’s highly likely that our consideration of that attorney will end then and there.”
