Mary Wasik, partner and Vice-Chair of the Corporate Practice Group, and Howard Dakoff, partner in the Community Associations Service Group, were quoted in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin on February 22, 2012. The article, "Firm gives local housing program a boost," mentions how Levenfeld Pearlstein recently awarded Casa Central, a social service agency in the Humboldt Park community, with a $25,000 grant to benefit its housing program.

From the article:

Mary Wasik said her firm's corporate contributions program does more than just cut checks to groups in need.

"We really have a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people," said Wasik. The task force, she said, "looks for programs that have multiple opportunities to improve the lives of others on multiple levels." With that in mind, Wasik said the task force determined that a housing program run by Casa Central "really fit into that criteria."

Ann Alvarez, president of Casa Central, said she couldn't be happier to receive the firm's grant. She said the firm's $25,000 will go toward the La Posada program, which not only provides homeless families with interim housing but a bevy of other services, which include counseling, child care, employment training, academic support and other assistance to help them get back on their feet. The program also gives these families services after a few months of interim housing so "they leave with a job and a place to live," she said.

Howard Dakoff, who serves as the firm's corporate social responsibility officer, said the La Posada program fits perfectly with the firm's culture of giving. "We chose organizations that have an impact on people's lives because the firm wants to have an impact on the community," Dakoff said.

Since 2007, Levenfeld Pearlstein awarded "probably a few hundred thousand dollars" in grants, Dakoff said. " We think doing good is good business," he said.
