Marc Fineman, a partner in the firm's Intellectual Property Practice Group, was quoted in the November 3, 2011 Law 360 article, "Kodak Pins Hopes on Patent Sale as Outlook Dims." According to the article, the Eastman Kodak Co. has announced plans to sell off ten percent of its patent portfolio in an attempt to stave off its mounting financial woes. Some believe the decision to be a risky one, and may only provide temporary relief in the face of bankruptcy rumors that have circulated about the future of the company.Fineman explained that the current market for patent portfolios may actually help Kodak’s efforts and noted that, “This past year has been somewhat extraordinary in terms of patent portfolio sales. "At the same time, the decision is not without its risks, and Fineman explained that if the company wants to get a license back for the patents it sells so it doesn't have to exit the digital imaging business altogether, bidders might be less willing to pay top dollar for those patents.
