Levenfeld Pearlstein, LLC (LP) is pleased to announce that Executive Director Angela M. Hickey has been selected by the Illinois CPA Society as a recipient of its 2014 Women to Watch Award. The Women to Watch Award recognizes outstanding women leaders in Illinois who have made significant contributions to the accounting profession, their organizations, and to the development of women as leaders. Hickey, along with the two other 2014 award honorees, will participate in a panel discussion at the 2014 Women’s Leadership Breakfast at The Standard Club in Chicago on November 13.

A licensed CPA, Hickey oversees all of LP’s financial and operational functions, including business development, marketing, human resources and technology, and is responsible for the strategic development and execution of the firm-wide business plan. She is also a member of the firm’s Executive and Compensation Committees.

“Angie plays a key role in all important business decisions at LP, and the unique culture that makes us who we are is, in large part, attributable to her outstanding vision, philosophy and business acumen,” said Robert A. Romanoff, LP’s managing partner. “While there is no doubt that it takes outstanding lawyers to make a law firm successful, it also takes an exceptionally strong leader like Angie to make it truly great. We are so fortunate to have her as a part of our team, and congratulate her on this richly-deserved honor.”

In selecting Hickey for recognition, the Illinois CPA Society noted her commitment to the professional growth of all members of her firm, as evidenced by her leadership of and participation in both formal and informal mentoring programs. Within LP, she has institutionalized a culture of learning, while outside the firm, she built the Idea Exchange, a peer mentoring group for women who lead professional services firms to share best practices and to learn from one another’s experiences.

Hickey is also largely responsible for the development of LP’s strong culture of transparency, which has fostered a collaborative approach to client service that distinguishes LP in the Chicago legal market. This culture has been instilled largely through tools and programs designed and executed by Hickey, including a partner survey tool to measure the perception of fairness and adherence to behavioral standards in the firm, and a dashboard reporting system that gives real-time reports on billings, collections, and other valuable information to practice group leaders and individual attorneys, assisting them in the management of their clients, groups, and individual practices. In addition, her unscripted ‘Ask Angie’ sessions, offered to LP employees on a regular basis, inform them of key decisions and plans within the firm, and provide a unique opportunity for them to air concerns and share suggestions for organizational excellence.

Hickey joined LP in 1999 as the firm’s first Director of Finance, and was named Executive Director in 2003. Prior to joining LP, she spent seven years as accounting manager at an AmLaw 200 law firm, and before entering the legal industry, worked in the field of higher education. She earned her B.S. in Accountancy from Governors State University, and her MBA from Keller Graduate School of Business. Hickey is a member of the Association of Legal Administrators, the Illinois CPA Society and the COO Forum. She currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities of Chicago and as a member of the Council of 100, an Advisory Board to the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana.
