CHICAGO July 31, 2018 — LP is pleased to announce that Crain’s Custom Media has recognized Sheri Warsh and Lauren Wolven among Chicago’s Notable Women Lawyers for the second consecutive year. As partners in LP’s Trusts & Estates group, Sheri and Lauren handle the estates of some of Chicago’s wealthiest and most prominent families.
Warsh concentrates her practice in estate, gift and income tax planning and business succession planning matters. She works with high net worth clients on all aspects of wealth preservation and planning. Her work involves many moving pieces, which can add a level of complexity to situations that may already be emotionally difficult for her clients. Her experience helps guide clients through complex legal considerations; and her gentle but informed approach adds a heightened level of sensitivity and understanding.
Among her recent high profile matters has been the estate planning connected with multiple stakeholders of a privately-held health care technology company, which was sold to a Fortune Global 500 company for more than $1 billion. Warsh continues to handle all post-sale estate planning matters for this client. Warsh also worked closely with a client whose assets include $20 million worth of antique classic cars, to develop a strategy that accounted for his wishes regarding the future sale, storage and maintenance of the assets. She also was engaged by a prominent matrimonial attorney to work with her client on the complex estate issues present in the divorce of an exceptionally wealthy Chicago couple. Warsh also heads LP’s women’s group, LPW, which was created to support the unique needs of the women at LP, and to inspire the women at the firm to consider diverse perspectives that enhance the firm’s ability to deliver creative client solutions.
Warsh serves on the Board of Directors of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois, and in that capacity, she is working with directors and staff to develop new ways for wealthy donors to contribute to the cause. She was named a Leading Lawyer by Leading Lawyers Network, 2016-2017, and is one of the few Illinois trusts and estates attorneys ranked by Chambers USA.
Wolven concentrates her practice on estate planning, wealth protection, estate and trust administration, tax and succession planning for privately held businesses, and trust and estate litigation. She also represents individuals and financial institutions in estate and trust administration and controversy matters. Wolven also works extensively with foundations and other charitable organizations with respect to administration, tax and planning issues. She recently advised a Chicago-based family-owned auto parts manufacturer in a challenging, $100 million plus sale of the business to a private equity firm. She also handles the complex administration of the estate of the deceased former CEO of a legendary Chicago musical arts organization, represented a major philanthropic organization in its conversion of a charitable trust to an endowment, and represents a Chicago real estate magnate in his estate planning.
Wolven’s influence in the Chicago and national legal communities can be felt in numerous other ways as well. She a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), an extremely selective group of the most skilled and experienced lawyers and professors in trusts and estates law, and the organization’s Illinois State Chair-Elect – succeeding next year to the State Chair, ACTEC’s highest-ranking state-level position.
Wolven is a past president and director of the Chicago Estate Planning Council, and a past Board Member of the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education. She also served several terms on the Executive Committee of the Chicago Bar Association Trust Law Committee. Wolven was named by Law Bulletin Publishing Company as one of its "40 Under 40" in 2010; was selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers from 2012 through 2017; and was recognized as an Illinois Super Lawyer 2014 through 2017. In 2015 through 2017, she was named by Super Lawyers as one of the Top 50 Women Attorneys in Illinois; and joins Sheri as one of the few Illinois trusts and estates attorneys ranked by Chambers USA.
