Levenfeld Pearlstein's David Blum Named Among Law Bulletin's "40 Under 40" for 2007

CHICAGO – Levenfeld Pearlstein LLC is pleased to announce that David C. Blum, a partner in the firm’s Taxation Service Group, has been named one of the “Forty Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch” for 2007 by Law Bulletin Publishing Company, publishers of Chicago Lawyer magazine and the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. Mr. Blum, 39, is featured, along with the other recognized attorneys, in a special supplement to the publications, currenty available.
Law Bulletin Publishing’s “40 Under 40” honors Illinois attorneys who show a passion for their profession, have had a series of successful outcomes and, above all, demonstrate a dedication and commitment to the legal profession. Honorees are chosen in a nomination process that evaluates candidates’ career achievements, advancement in their fields and community involvement. This is the second consecutive year in which a Levenfeld Pearlstein attorney has been named among Law Bulletin Publishing’s “40 Under 40”. In 2006, Peter F. Donati, head of the firm’s Employment Service Group, was recognized.
In selecting David for its list, Law Bulletin Publishing Company noted that Mr. Blum is “one of the top tax specialists in the city’s legal community,” and praised his work on the most complex of tax matters, including the corporate restructuring, debt exchange and subsequent spin-off of a $2 billion subsidiary of a New York Stock Exchange-listed company.
Mr. Blum concentrates his practice on a broad range of transactional, tax planning and tax controversy matters. He has extensive experience in creating and implementing tax-efficient structures for domestic and cross-boarder transactions, including business start-ups, private equity, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, dispositions, restructurings, executive compensation and corporate finance matters.
As a former State Tax Auditor and a Certified Public Accountant, Mr. Blum also has significant experience in representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and state and local taxing agencies. His representation includes, audit defense, appealing and negotiating proposed assessments, tax litigation, negotiating and entering into voluntary disclosure agreements and obtaining federal and state private letter rulings. In addition, he frequently counsels local and multi-state business on all aspects of state and local taxation.
Mr. Blum was appointed to the Advisory Board of the John Marshall Law School’s LL.M. (Taxation) program and is also an adjunct professor in the LL.M. program where he teaches partnership taxation, one of its required courses.
Mr. Blum is the past Chair of the Federal Taxation Committee of the Chicago Bar Association and currently sits on the Executive Committee for the CBA Federal Taxation Committee. He has also chaired the Corporate Tax Subcommittee and the Partnership and Flow-Through Entity Subcommittee of the CBA. David also frequently writes and speaks on a variety of tax related topics.
Mr. Blum earned a B.S.B.A. in Accounting and a B.S.B.A. in Finance from the University of Arizona in 1990 and his J.D. and LL.M (Taxation) from the John Marshall Law School in 1997. While at John Marshall, David was the Business Managing Editor of the Journal of Computer and Information Law.
