CHICAGO – Levenfeld Pearlstein LLC is please to announce that firm chairman Bryan I. Schwartz has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Eleanor Foundation, an organization which provides grants to services that support working women in Chicago who earn less than $30,000 per year and receive no public aid.
Those served by the Eleanor Foundation are typically motivated but struggling women who have little access to childcare programs, little or no health care, and few choices for affordable housing. The Foundation provides financial assistance to community and outreach organizations that offer innovative programs to help this underserved population. It provides funding, challenge grants, research, and institutional expertise to organizations with programs to help women.
“I am honored to have been elected to the Eleanor Foundation and look forward to continuing my association with this organization which makes possible so many essential services for those who need them most,” Mr. Schwartz said. “As a firm, Levenfeld Pearlstein realizes that just doing what is expected of us in the community is not enough and as such, we have a proud tradition of donating both our time and financial resources to improve the quality of life in the communities where we live and work. I believe that my association with the Eleanor Foundation meshes perfectly with this philosophy and am proud to be associated with this fine organization.”
In Chicago, more than 287,000 women and children live in households headed by working women with incomes between $10,000 and $30,000 per year and 75 percent of people who fall below the poverty line live in female-headed households in which women bear all responsibility for working, paying rent and utilities, and providing for their children. In addition, at today's minimum wage, a woman working 40 hours a week takes home less than $200. Even with overtime, many must survive on little more than $1,000 a month. The Eleanor Foundation is striving to change those statistics by supporting low-income working women as they strive to achieve economic self-sufficiency.
In December 2007, Levenfeld Pearlstein announced the launch of its Corporate Contributions Program, a grant-making program based on the firm’s belief that its accomplishments are routed in accountability, and that by supporting the innovation and leadership of non-profit organizations, it extends its ability to make a difference in the community.
