Michael Tuchman is a partner in the Corporate Practice Group and leads the Taxation Service Group and the Exchange Service Group, concentrating in corporate mergers and acquisitions, commercial real estate development and joint ventures and Federal income taxation.
Michael began his practice in 1984, focusing on transactional and international taxation. He currently serves as special counsel to several prominent pension funds, foreign governments, real estate investment trusts and other institutional investors. He has written numerous articles and is a frequent speaker on a variety of tax topics. Tuchman has been an adjunct professor in the graduate tax program at John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He has also taught corporate taxation at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Representing a broad range of manufacturing and service concerns, Michael is a trusted advisor to both privately owned and public companies and an experienced and pragmatic negotiator of business acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures and commercial contracts. He has assisted clients in global business expansions, complex corporate restructurings and family succession planning. Michael also represents institutional and entrepreneurial real estate investors, banks, trust companies and other financial institutions. He is highly regarded for his skill in structuring complex tax-sensitive exchange transactions, including adapting tenancy-in-common structures to the securitized mortgage market, to leasing and auction companies and to fine art collectors.
Michael's other areas of concentration include representing senior executives of public companies in employment and separation agreements, compensation planning and estate planning, and assisting in providing substantive non-consolidation and other specialized legal opinions to the securitized loan market.
Michael serves as the firm’s liaison to MSI, through which the firm has affiliate offices in New York, Los Angeles, London and other major business centers.
