David is a partner in the Taxation Service Group, Corporate Practice Group and is the head of the Sports Law Service Group. He concentrates his practice on a broad range of transactional, tax planning and tax controversy matters. David has extensive experience in creating and implementing tax-efficient structures for all types of domestic and cross border transactions, including business start-ups, private equity, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, dispositions, restructurings, executive compensation and corporate finance matters. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.
As a former State Tax Auditor, David has significant experience in representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and state and local taxing agencies. His representation includes, audit defense, appealing and negotiating proposed assessments, tax litigation, negotiating and entering into voluntary disclosure agreements and obtaining federal and state private letter rulings. In addition, he frequently counsels local and multi-state business on all aspects of state and local taxation.
David frequently writes and speaks on a variety of tax related topics. He has written articles for national publications including the Journal of Taxation of Corporate Transactions (CCH) and the Journal of Real Estate Taxation (WGL). David recently spoke on the Tax Aspects of Buying, Selling and Licensing Intellectual Property at the Ocean Tomo, Live IP Auction & Conference. In addition, David has been quoted in the National Law Journal.
David was appointed to the Advisory Board of the John Marshall Law School's LL.M. (Taxation) Program and is also an adjunct professor in the LL.M. program where he teaches partnership taxation, one of its required courses.
