First it was associates, but these days it's income partners who are feeling the pain of layoffs. Once considered to be a position with all of the advantages and few of the risks of equity partnership, some Chicago law firms have been reducing the number of income partners they have or, in some cases, eliminating the category by asking for capital contributions.
